The tomato variety database holds variety information and images entered by website users. The database interface provides the ability to search for tomato varieties based on fruit and plant characteristics. So you ask, "what can this database do for me?" Well, assume you want to find tomato varieties that yield small, red, round fruit. The database search engine can do that! Just enter the appropriate fields in the search page, click the submit button, then review the results. Or perhaps you would like to find all the hybrid varieties with potato-shaped leaves. The database search engine can do that as well. In fact, it currently performs all kinds of combinational searches - each field you specify refines the search. There are thousands of tomato varieties and it is impossible for any individual to collect and photograph all of them. The continued growth of the database relies on the hard work, patience, and persistence of willing tomato afficionados. Please contribute information and images if you are able! You will notice ways to contribute when you use the system. The database came online in August of 2005; very few varieties have complete information and images. Don't expect too much at this time - work continues. The search methods, database fields, and data presentation can (and will) be modified as the project matures.
